Our Staff

Our medical staff includes Board Certified Pediatricians.

A Pediatrician has extensive training in the care of children's health needs. He or she first attends college for 4 years to acquire a BA or BS. The next phase is medical school for an additional 4 years to earn a Doctor of Medicine or MD. To become a specialist in general pediatrics, one then does a 3 year residency where time is spent in clinics and hospitals just training to care for children. It is necessary to pass national examinations and take continuing education to then become board certified in pediatrics. All the Cactus Children's Clinic doctors are US medical school graduates and board certified in pediatrics. They are also Fellows of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

A Certified Nurse Practitioner is a registered nurse who has acquired knowledge and clinical skills in child health care through successful completion of a masters program in nursing, as well as a continuing education program. The content of these programs include growth and development, family and cultural issues, pediatric physical and development assessment, lactation consulting and common childhood illnesses and problems.

A Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner is concerned with preventing, maintaining, and treating human illness and injury by providing a broad range of health care services under the supervision of a physician. Physician Assistants conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret tests, counsel on preventive health care, give medical orders and write prescriptions.

A Bachelor's degree, and a Master's degree with medical clinical internships precede obtaining a license to practice as a Physician Assistant. Renewal of licensure is necessary every few years, varying by state. They are educated in the medical model designed to complement physician training.
